Writing an extra credit paper for my geology class on this bad boy. The Aialik glacier on the Kenai peninsula in Seward, Alaska. Back in 2006, my brother and myself took a trip up there. This thing is one of the few tidewater glaciers left. Don’t be fooled by the photo. It’s massive. A couple miles high x a couple miles wide. We were on a tiny boat and once we got within 2 miles of thing it was FREEZING COLD. One of the coolest, most epic things, I have ever seen in my lifetime - was watching a 3 story high shelf of it calve into the water in front of us. You heard this loud cracking noise like thunder, then an explosion as it fell into the water…followed by a giant wave.
So cool.
If you EVER get the chance,
go to alaska.
